What a wonderful village this would be to spend a couple of days in. Wonderful for walking and sightseeing, with several nice inns. I am so fond of all the old stone houses.

That Established date on the Blue Bell is 1680.

There are seemingly miles of these stone fenced greens outside of the village.

That town is just so gorgeous - I could hang out there for days. The mind boggles for us, but it is so common in England to have things that old - lots of inns and such. Heck, most of the village churches predate that by at least 200 years! We'd be in heaven.

**hugs**

When I lived in Ohio I was constantly amazed at the age of things. We're just so new out here!

When I lived in York I went to Kettlewell many times. It's a great place for walking and I've stopped for refreshments at most of the pubs pictured! It's interesting to see it again through your eyes :)

The stone walls you mention are something the Yorkshire Dales are famous for - dry stone walls. They're made without mortar (hence the 'dry' in the name) and are made by just stacking stones of the right size. It's a great skill.

Even that garage in the last shot is cool :-)

Sheeeeeep!

The one house with the solid pane windows...I'm betting they've had those redone recently! :-)

And the one with the three dormers...I'm betting those were added after the window tax went away!

All those benches placed hither and yon, yay! Yup, looks like a great place for a walk! :-)

*hugs you*

My friend used to work for the National Trust and is skilled in building stone walls without mortar. Apparently, when they are damaged by cars hitting them it becomes like a jigsaw puzzle putting them back together again. She worked in Northumberland where the stone walls are common but they are common over large areas of the North of England.

I love Yorkshire - that is where i would like to live one day - the villages are so pretty.

I love Yorkshire. So much of it seems untouched by time! I had hoped to go to Goathland at Easter (I'm a Heartbeat fan, lol) but we couldn't afford it. Maybe next year!

The stone fences make me sigh. I love how there are the little dots of color everywhere - sometimes its flowers, others its actually the pot, or even the phone booths.

We are indeed. C and I loved to tour the wine country and Highway 49, and anything from 1850 or 1860 was a real prize!!
