Whatever possesses people to write a book in second person present tense? Seriously, they need to come with a warning. This book is going to have to go. Three chapters and I can't take it anymore....

I've never read anything in second person that I could get through.

I don't even like books written in the present tense. Second person as well must be dire!

I'm surprised it was published. It's a story problem, for heaven's sake! "You walk into a room with 3 chairs. There are four people in this room. How many chairs do you need?"

>.

Which book is that, Agie? Yeah, I've seen some successful second person in a short story format but any more than that is just annoying and seems like the author's attempt to be Different. Not a good way to do it.

I find second tense annoying. The book would end up in the charity shop.

What I wonder is why anyone would want to write a whole book like that. I can write about a paragraph before the pure unnaturalness of it gets to me. Ewww!

The thought of writing that makes my head goes splodey, too.

That's bizarre. I'm not sure what possible benefit a second person POV could be to any story over a hundred words. And even then... *bleh*

Sounds like one of those 'choose your ending' books I read as a kid!

**hugs**

Urgh, how annoying! :( It is always so sad if a good story is hidden by bad writing. :(

What book is this, so I don't make a mistake and buy it or something. It is frustrating and annoying to have a book you just cannot make yourself wade through.

That's about it! I think I read it was written by a screenwriter, which may explain it.

The author is a screenwriter, which may explain it but not excuse it.

I know, it just does not mix does it? Hilary Mantel's two Booker prize winners, Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies about Thomas Cromwell are written in second person/present tense and both are huge tomes. I gave up half way through Wolf Hall, simply irritated beyond belief and exhausted with the effort. In my opinion it renders the narrative verging on the unreadable.
