I kind of ran out of the office today because I had to pick up a prescription, and realized a couple blocks away that I'd left my Kindle sitting on my desk. I contemplated going back, but decided it was a good excuse to update my backup kindle here at home, so I'll be doing that shortly. It's really time for me to just delete all the folders on that one and then recopy everything over from the current one I'm using - when you tell it to copy folders from another kindle without deleting them first once in a while, you end up with books everywhere in too many folders and a "to read" folder that's 100 books larger than it needs to be.

I picked up another heater from the pharmacy since they had them so conveniently located at the door to remind me, but I'm afraid to turn it on high. Every room is on a different circuit, and the living room has a lot going on with the cat's heater (a powerful one), the computer, yada, yada. I'm contemplating running an extension cord from the middle bedroom across the hall (I can run the cord under the area rug and not kill myself tripping over it), which may be preferable to going outside in the cold with a flashlight to reset the circuit breaker.

I fear I have another dentist appointment looming sometime very soon. Just when I thought I was done with root canals - something wonky and painful is going on in the other side of my mouth. Damn it.

Ladies tea is coming up at church this Saturday. I always enjoy those so much.

The new lavender bushes are planted along the front walk finally - looks very neat and trim again. The old ones (which had grown too large but are still good) will be transplanted in the back. I need to take a picture of the front while it's still looking so nice.

Listening to Maeve Binchy's A Week in Winter on Audible at the moment, and liking it very much. I will say, you have to be very comfortable listening to an Irish accent to enjoy it.

I'd love a kindle - alas, that will be in the future :)

I ended up cancelling my dentist app last Monday because I thought I had a cold. I think perhaps it's just allergies combined with the ultra dry weather. So I'll have to reschedule it soon.

I love Maeve Binchy's books but I haven't read one for a while...

I've never read her before. This one seems to be the best narrator, so I may check out her others for kindles vs Audible. Cheaper. The tooth is better today so I have fingers crossed. I have an appt next week with him for a cleaning, so I'll have him check it out then.

*hugs*

*hugs you* :)

I plug mine into a surge protector. Every so often it trips it, then I just reset the surge protector and don't have to mess with breakers :)

That's a thought. I need to rearrange cords and see if I can manage that. The problem is I could do with about 10 more outlets, even after I had a ton added when I had the house rewired 4 years ago. Never enough.

I deleted a load of books from my kindle and it worked a lot faster - like it was new again :)

Enjoy your lunch. I hope the tooth can be easily fixed.

Do you cook with lavender from your bushes? I sometimes make lavender sugar.

*hugs*

Oh, now that's a good idea!! I tend to save the ones I've read in folders, but I should just delete the ones that I don't think I'll reread.

The tooth is not as painful today, so I think it can wait until my appointment next week. That one is for a cleaning and he can check it out then.

I've never cooked with the lavender - just harvested for fragrance.

**hugs**

I don't have a kindle either. I'm wavering between that and a Samsung tablet. So I haven't decided.

LOL...what cats love more then anything is heat. They just love to warm.....

I like the kindle keyboard because it will read to you, which none of the other kindle versions or a tablet will do. I'm quite used to the female computer voice, and I can listen to a book while I drive, clean, shop, whatever. Kindle books are much less expensive than Audibles, and there is a much broader selection of ebooks available over audible books.

That said, I love my ipad mini and use the tablet for completely different uses. If you don't think you'd use the Kindle to read to you, there are less significant advantages to using a Kindle over a tablet, i.e., the kindle will hold over 2000 books, and if you get one with wifi you can download anywhere.

My kindle has yellow and blue lines running across teh screen, but I'll be damned if I'm buying another one til this one has completely crapped out. *stomps foot*

I like Perky's suggestion of a surge protector. :)

Oh, I hear that! I finally invested in a good cover since I blew so many screens by dropping it. I got this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Eco-Vue-Kindle-Leather-Keyboard/dp/B0046A8YEO/ref=sr_tr_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1386906180&sr=1-2&keywords=kindle+keyboard+case

Took me a bit to get used to it since I was used to carrying my kindle around in my pocket, but it's a marvelous case and has extended the life of my current kindle by months and months.

I'm going to try the surge protector idea. I have one in the wall - I just need to make room and reshuffle cords.

Is that like an iPad? I have an iPad, but rarely do anything with it. My brother insisted that I have it. I'm just not all that tech savvy. I freaked out for the longest when I had to adjust to Windows 8. O.O

Running the cord under the rug sounds good. And much safer. *nods* No killing yourself.

I really hope and pray you don't have to have anymore major dental work. Ugh! Such a pain, and expensive as all get out. :/

No, not like an ipad. An ipad is a tablet computer. A regular Kindle is a portable library for ebooks. I love my ipad and use it frequently instead of the computer for checking mail on the run (you can just flip it open and check quick in the morning while you're getting ready for work), and chatting over YIM while kicking back on the couch. The both have their purposes. If you could adjust to Windows 8, you can figure out the ipad. Don't be afraid of it. It's a pretty cool gadget.

Oh, I see. :)

I suppose I could try and get to know it better during my next two weeks off from work. I would like to learn how to use it as a Bible in church--I'm afraid it might start talking and I won't know how to shut it up! hehehe! x)

That's a great idea. Check out the bible apps in the app store. I doubt any of those have audible, so you should be okay.

If there is no bible app, I know there is one you can get from the Kindle store and read on the kindle app on your ipad. there are may versions of the KJV for only 99 cents. That might be better than the app.

Ugh! I really hate dental work. I hope yours go very smoothly and turns out to be something minor.

Munchkin wants a Kindle, but I just can't afford one at the moment. Maybe for her birthday in April. Of course, I was thinking about the Surface, which works like a laptop or a tablet since she really needs a new computer too. Ugh!

Be safe with the cords and circuit breakers.

I recommend the Kindle Keyboard model - it's the only version that reads to you (text to speech), which is so handy for listening to a book while multitasking. Yes, it's a computer voice, but it's free.

All the kids are schools seem to be switching to tablets. If she's not apt to listen to the kindle, the kindle app can go on any phone, tablet, or computer, and it's free. If she has a tablet, she can use that for kindle books too.

*hugs*

I llked A Week In Winter. Different than some of hers, but good. I still have my ancient kindle...if it ever dies, i will just start using the iPad. I think it has a kindle app or something like that.

Surge protector...very good.

I was listening to the other narrators on Binchy's recorded books, and there are many I don't like, so I'll probably go with the kindle version for some of her other books.

I've found that the "ancient" kindle is must sturdier than the newer ones. And it has text to speech, which only the Kindle Keyboard model has now. I can't tell you how many Kindle keyboards I've ruined by dropping them and blowing the screen (it get's all pixelated and you can't use it, nor can it be fixed). Well, yes I can tell you. 6, to be exact. The earlier version is an old workhorse and I keep it updated as a backup.

Yes, there is definitely a kindle app on the iPad. It's a nice app that works on any tablet or smart phone, and is a very nice format. If course once you download the app, your archive will all be there waiting for you. I put the Kindle app on everything, just in case I'm ever somewhere with a different device and need a book. Paranoid to be without my library much? Naw, whatever gave you that idea?
